This page links to my interests in mental health, in particularly migrants and mental health and gender and mental health. These pages have links to my presentations and articles as well as favourite external links.I am interested in western illness categories and whether they are applicable to other cultures. In many communities, when individuals experience unhappiness, applying a mental illness label can be stigmatising. Migrants tend to under-utilise mental health services and terminate treatment prematurely. Furthermore, those who are unfamiliar and uncomfortable with the Western system tend to resort to it only when the situation has become chronic and disabling or, in the worst case scenario, when forensic services are required. I am also interested in the reliability and validity of cross-cultural measures and the impact of stigma associated with social penalties.Lastly, I am passionate about research and migration and the issues related to researching across difference, to read more about this, have a look at the papers I have written, which can be accessed from profile page.
